Serving the wider Wellington region, Whitireia Community Polytechnic has campuses in Wellington city, Kapiti and Porirua.

The Porirua campus's Faculty of Service Industries and Trades is home to Whitireia's florist training course.

This programme is an 18 week course in commercial floral design.

The course includes:

  • Wiring techniques
  • Assembling corsages and buttonholes
  • Bowl arrangements
  • Hand-tied bouquets
  • Floral gifts

In addition students complete unit standards in:

  • Health and safety,
  • First aid,
  • Retailing and
  • Plant physiology.

Students complete NZQA units towards the National Certificate in Floristry L2.
